The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

Description

hb Lilly, William & Zadkiel An Introduction to Astrology by William Lilly, with numerous Emendations, Adapted to the Improved State of the Science; also a Grammar of Astrology and Tables for Calculating Nativities by Zadkiel Later impression G. Bell and Sons, Ltd., London 1933 £75 One of the last high-quality hardback printings of this compendium edition, which had first been published thus by H. G. Bohn in 1852, with later printings issued by George Bell & Sons. Original full red cloth in excellent condition for age, with cloth still fairly bright (lightly faded to spine and towards middle of front board) and gilt titling and emblem to spine still clear and strong; very light wear to tips of outer corners of boards. Blind-stamped Bohn’s Libraries insignia to front board slightly muted but still clear enough. Old inked page reference to ffep. Vintage London bookseller address label to front paste-down. Small red Chinese stamps to upper outer margins of ffep and title page. Plain-pencilled number to upper margin of title page. Some red-pencilled underlining to various pages from pp. 25-79, mostly to headings to help them stand out on the page, occasionally to in-text keywords. A little neatly-ruled black-inked underlining to p. 33 and pp. 79-80; dark-inked marginal bracket to p. 76. At a quick flick through, I could not find any permanent mark-up beyond p. 80. The book is over 550 pages long. The two fold-out illustrations following p. 292 are combined into a single wide fold-out leaf paginated p. 293 and p. 294 on this copy. Externally excellent; internally good+; overall, a very good copy
