Bell and Sons, Ltd., London 1933 £85 One of the last high-quality hardback printings of this compendium edition, which had first been published thus by H. G. Bohn in 1852, with later printings issued by George Bell & Sons. Original full red cloth in vgc for age, with a few patches of light fraying to cloth at very foot of spine; light rubbing to extremities of spine hinges and outer corners of boards; spine relatively sunned. Colouring to boards remains deep and satisfying; to spine, it is relatively sun-faded. Gilt titling and insignia to spine intact and clear. Blind-stamped Bohn’s Libraries emblem to front board still strong and clear. Trace of horizontal black ink staining to small parts of boards and spine; tiny bump to outer edge of front board. Free endpapers age-toned. Former owner’s address label to front paste-down. Slight cracking to paper hinge before title page. No internal markings or other faults found. The two leaves of fold-out illustrations following p. 292 are present and in excellent condition. A very good copy overall
