The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

£125.00
Description
hb | Lilly, William & Zadkiel | An Introduction to Astrology by William Lilly, with numerous Emendations, Adapted to the Improved State of the Science; also a Grammar of Astrology and Tables for Calculating Nativities by Zadkiel | Later impression | G. Bell and Sons, Ltd., London | 1927 | £125 | One of the later high-quality hardback printings of this compendium edition, which had first been published thus by H. G. Bohn in 1852, with later printings issued by George Bell & Sons. | Original full red cloth in vgc+ condition, with gilt titling, emblem and rule to spine still fairly strong and bright; publisher’s blind-stamped gilt emblem to front board still legible although slightly faded. Small 3mm patch of wear to cloth towards top of spine, not affecting title; a couple of small patches of wear to cloth over rear board; otherwise just scattered staining to cloth; and very light wear to extremities of spine and tips of outer corners of boards. Front paste-down with small vintage Brotherhood of Light sticker from the time of publication. Endpapers toned. Ffep with old plain-pencilled bookseller notes. Two creases across outer margin of leaf comprising pp. 135-6 owing to past folding, but no permanent internal markings or other faults found. Overall, an excellent copy for its age: internally near-fine, and externally better than very good. Loosely held in a past bookseller’s clear mylar jacket, which is itself now torn towards the top and bottom of its own rear spine hinge, and could be discarded if no longer wanted, though it has helped to conserve the book |
