hb Sampson, Walter The Zodiac: A Life Epitome 1st The Blackfriars Press Ltd., London 1928 £50 Complete in 420 pages + 5-panel fold-out of diagrams, as issued Original full blue cloth in vgc+ condition, with light rubbing to extremities of spine and outer corners of boards. Very slight vertical crease to front board. Gilt titling to both front board and spine, and gilt zodiacal glyphs within blind-stamped circular diagram to front board, still strong and bright. Ffep with faint plain-pencilled number. Light creases across lower outer corner of frontispiece leaf. Slight traces of staining to p. xxiii. Tiny pinpoint ink stain between ‘i’ and ‘n’ to word ‘cleanliness’ on p. 114. Trace of finger-smudging to lower margin of p. 132. Corrected dog-ears to lower outer corner of leaf comprising pp. 161-2 and upper outer corner of leaf comprising pp. 297-8. Slight staining and 2mm tear to outer edge of outermost panel in fold-out. No deliberate previous owner markings or other significant faults found – a very good copy of the first edition for its age.
