The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

£135.00

Description

hb Sepharial The Science of Foreknowledge, Being a Compendium of Astrological Research, Philosophy, and Practice, in the East and West 1st W. Foulsham & Co., Ltd., Sixty-One Fleet Street, E. C. 4, London 1918 £135 The printed date to the title page of 1918 shows this to be the true first edition, which is further supported by the publisher address, where Foulsham was based only from 1917 to 1921 Original full blue cloth in vgc for age, with very light wear to extremities of spine, moderate wear to cloth over lower outer corner of front board, and bumping to some outer corners. Gilt titling to front board is partly faded but still present and clear to read. Spine slightly sunned. Strongly bound, with both inner paper hinges intact. Early owner’s plain-pencilled signature, note of their senior rank (Wing Commander) in the Royal Air Force, and date of October 1941, to front paste-down. Later owner’s address sticker to ffep. A few blue-inked sums to rear fep, and blue-inked astrological notes to part of rear paste-down. Printed pages mostly free of permanent marks, just a few lines of inked underlining and marginal lines to pp. 37, 92 and 128; otherwise, only plain-pencilled underlining and marginal bracketing to a number of pages. Interesting contemporary newspaper clipping reporting on 26th March [1945] on the death of David Lloyd George, British Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922, tipped in to upper margin of p. 137. This paper insert has caused moderate but even toning to pp. 136-7. Still a very good copy of the rare and sought-after first edition
