The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.
Sepharial – The New Manual of Astrology, c. 1920s-1930s
£37.50
Description
hb | Sepharial | The New Manual of Astrology, in Four Books[,] Treating of the Language of the Heavens[,] the Reading of a Horoscope, the Measure of Time, and of Hindu Astrology. With Set of Tables | Early reprint | W. Foulsham & Co. Ltd., 10 & 11 Red Lion Court | n.d. | £37.50 | Imprint places this edition in the date range of 1922-1939 | Publisher’s original full brown cloth in vgc, with blind-stamped bordering to both boards and apparent blind-stamped titling to spine (if ever this was gilt, there is no evidence of it now). Light fraying to cloth at extremities of spine hinges; light superficial rubbing along spine hinges; very light wear to outer corners of front board; minor traces of scuffing or staining to small parts of boards. Both front and rear inner paper hinges intact. Charming vintage Foyles of London pictorial bookstore address sticker to front paste-down. Early owner’s brown-inked signature to ffep, beneath later owner’s plain-pencilled signature dated 1950. Moderate foxing to many pages throughout the book testifies to the authentic age of this edition and does not detract from reading. Occasional plain-pencilled marginal brackets, underlinings and accidental marginal marks, some of them erased, but no permanent markings found. Three rear free end-papers all have short tears in outer edges; last one also has creasing to upper outer margin. No other faults found. Overall, still a very good antiquarian original of an uncommon impression of the Foulsham edition |
