Library records disagree between 1926 and 1927 as to the actual publication date. Original full dark green cloth in near-fine condition, with only a trace of discoloration to outer margin of rear board preventing it from being fine. Almost no wear (minimal rubbing to parts of spine ends). Gilt titling to front board and spine bright and strong. Top edge of page block browned, but internally, this is a very clean copy. Over the top of the original printed William Rider and Son publisher designation has been adhered a revised printed Rider address label reading: Messrs Rider & Co., Paternoster Row, London, E.C. 4. Former owner’s plain-pencilled signature and plain-pencilled old imperial price to ffep. 1 cm internal closed tear within upper margin of leaf comprising pp. 3-4, not affecting text or reaching page edge. No permanent markings or other faults found. Binding remains strong. An excellent copy of the first edition
