Vol. 2: viii + 107 pp. All the original two-volume editions are now scarce. They were replaced by the more common one-volume edition in 1905 Both volumes: publisher’s original pebbled cloth with blind-stamped decorative bordering to both boards and gilt-blocked titling with central gilt emblem to front board. Vol. I: Originally gilt titling to spine faded; moderate rubbing and fraying of cloth to extremities of spine; cloth somewhat worn over a couple of outer corners of boards; some peripheral areas of boards relatively sun-faded or mottled. Internally in excellent condition for age. Early owner’s fine inked signature to ffep; no other markings found. Lowest part of inner paper hinge between pp. 14 and 15 slightly strained. No other faults found. Vol. II: Slight chipping to very top of spine, with wear to outer cloth layer a little beyond this, down to 1.2 cm from top at rear hinge side; similar cloth wear to bottom approx. 1.2 cm of front hinge of spine, and very slight chipping to foot of spine; cloth worn from all outer corners of boards, with extended patch of scuffing towards upper outer corner of front board; small area of white staining towards upper inner corner of rear board. Gilt spine titling only slightly faded on this volume: still clear to read. Internally a very clean copy, with no markings found. Inner paper hinge cracked between pp. 80 and 81; binding would benefit from strengthening here. No other faults found. Price factors in faults
