hb 5-vol. set Wemyss, Maurice The Wheel of Life, or Scientific Astrology 1st / early Modern Astrology Office / L. N. Fowler (Vols. I & IV); L. N. Fowler (Vol. II); International Publishing Co. (Vols. III & V); n.d. £300 The author’s real name was Duncan Macnaughton. These books are always undated in print, with no impression details provided. Volume III is a later impression; the others are first or early printings. The respective publication dates for the volumes are: 1927; 1929; unknown (after 1945); 1935; and unknown (after 1943) All five volumes in original full cloth with gilt titling to spine. Vols. I, II, IV and V in black cloth; Vol. III in blue cloth. Vols. I, II and IV near-fine, with minimal rubbing to extremities of spine hinges. Vol. III spine relatively sunned and gilt relatively faded, and with tiny ink stain to foot of spine, but no visible wear. Vol. V vgc+, with light rubbing to extremities of spine and outer hinges of boards. Internally, all volumes are solidly bound and free from previous owner markings. Vol. I with short tears to outer edges of three preliminary leaves, not reaching text. Vol. II with relatively browned page-edges and with toning to half-title page and final printed page from contact with acidic endpapers. All other volumes internally fine. Overall, an excellent complete antiquarian set of this important series of books by one of Scotland’s leading astrologers of the 20th century.
