The work was originally published as a series of leaves in a black ring binder in 1929, which is the nominal first edition, hence its first appearance as a book being the nominal 2nd. Not to be confused with the more common 3rd edition, which retained the 1931 copyright date but was printed in the 1940s Original full red cloth in vgc+ condition for age, with light wear to extremities of spine and outer corners of boards; and some staining and darkening to cloth; closed edges of page block browned. Gilt titling to spine faded but still survives in traces and is clear to read. Paper hinges immediately after copyright page and immediately before rear fep cracked, but webbing holding. Front paste-down with blue-pencilled dash and number. Plain-pencilled annotations to a very small number of pages, e.g. p. 139 and rear f.e.p.. No permanent markings or other faults found. Overall, a very good copy of the first book-form edition and second overall edition of this sought-after work by Hall
