The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

Edward | The Stars: How and Where they Influence | 1st | Doherty Pub Co., San Bernardino, California | 1929 | £95 | The rare true first edition of this highly intelligent look at the theoretical astrological influence of the fixed stars. The book was reprinted by Weiser more than half a century later in 1970 | Original full cloth in vgc+ condition, with moderate rubbing to top 5mm of spine; only minimal rubbing to other extremities. Minor bump to upper outer corner of front board. Gilt tiling to front board still strong and bright; to spine it is somewhat faded as usual. Endpapers slightly toned and foxed. Author’s name added in plain pencil to upper margin of page featuring his birth chart by a former owner. Occasional yellow-inked underlinings found – one each to pp. 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 55 and 58; and three successive lines to p. 51, which is followed by red-pencilled underlining of last few lines of the page and first few of p. 52. Plain-pencilled marginal annotation to p. 83. No other faults found. Externally vgc+; internally good+; overall, a very good copy despite the handful of underlinings, with the binding being uncommonly well-conserved |
