The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

Description
hb | Johndro, L. Edward | The Stars: How and Where they Influence | 1st | Doherty Pub Co., San Bernardino, California | 1929 | £85 | The rare true first edition of this highly intelligent look at the theoretical astrological influence of the fixed stars. The book was reprinted by Weiser more than half a century later in 1970 | Original full cloth in vgc for age, with moderate wear to cloth at top of spine and upper outer corner of rear board, and light wear at feet of spine hinges and other outer corners of boards, to two small patches of bottom edge of rear board, and to 2mm section of rear spine hinge. Gilt titling to front board still mostly strong and bright, to spine, it is relatively faded but still legible. Slight vertical crease down centre of front board. Scattered mild staining to rear board, with small traces to front board. Old finely printed San Francisco Metaphysical Library & Book Shop address sticker neatly adhered to lower margin of front paste-down. Small liquid stain to upper outer corners of pages visible from about p. 9 to p. 75, but barely noticeable except between pp. 23 and 49, where it is a little clearer; it is in any case far from the text. Plain-pencilled dash to p. 83, and occasional plain-pencilled mark-up and marginal annotations to tables on a few other pages, but faint and could be erased. No permanent previous owner markings or other faults found. Overall, a very good copy of the rare first edition. |
