The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

£250.00

Description

hb/dj Rudhyar, Dane New Mansions for New Men 1st Lucis Publishing Company, New York 1938 £250 The true first edition. The book was reprinted in 1946 by the David McKay Company, and by Servire in 1971, also in cloth editions, before the inevitable later paperbacks. Original full red cloth with both gilt titling and blind-stamped bordering to front board and spine. Cloth in near-fine condition for its age, with very light rubbing to foot of spine and tips of outer corners. Gilt titling to front board and spine moderately faded. In good+ original printed dj, which has two moderate chips lost from bottom edge of front panel (reaching a maximum extent of about 1½ cm from the bottom edge in each case), 1.2 cm tear with light chipping to top of front spine hinge, 5mm chip lost from foot of front spine hinge (with connected short cross-tear), and 5mm tear to top of rear flap-fold. Endpapers toned towards gutters. Ffep with former owner’s red-inked signature, date and elated short note to upper outer margin of ffep. Beyond ffep, a fine, clean, unmarked copy, with very mild toning towards inner margins of parts of pp. 180-1 where a paper insert was formerly stored, but no faults found. Pages remain strongly bound. Overall, an excellent copy of the rare first edition in even rarer surviving dust jacket.
