The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.
Dane Rudhyar – Harmonic Astrology 1931-1932 ASSOCIATION COPY
£750.00
Description
hb | Rudhyar, Dane | Harmonic Astrology | 1st | HAMSA Publications, Brookline, Mass. | 1931 – 1932 | £750 | Complete set of 7 issues (all published) of this very rare early serially-issued Rudhyar work, his first dedicated astrological publication. | ASSOCIATION COPY. Custom early full blue cloth binding with attractively rounded outer corners, and with bright gilt title label to front board, as well as (much smaller) the gilt name of the original owner who had it bound, Harcourt M. Taylor, thought to have been an American judge who lived from 1881 to 1964, and the later gilt stamp of Hollywood astrologer Alice Q. Reichard (1916-2007). Cloth in vgc+ condition, with traces of rubbing to extremities of spine and very slightly along parts of spine hinges, else fine. Orange pictorial Sun-themed bookplate of Alice Q. Reichard to front paste-down, together with two early plain-pencilled prices. The seven original booklets are bound complete with their illustrated front covers but not their rear covers, which were unmarked and are presumed to have therefore been deemed disposable by Judge Taylor at the time of his procuring the binding. He has signed his name in black ink to the top margins of all seven covers, dated 3/20/34. The outer corners of all the pages have been rounded at the bindery to match the rounded corners of the binding. This has helped to conserve them and keep them free from tears and creases. The paper is in excellent, uncreased condition throughout. Nos. I and II have some black-inked underlining, which blends fairly harmoniously with the black printed type; and all seven issues have plain-pencilled underlining and plain-pencilled marginal ticks, which could be carefully erased if desired. A very rare set in any condition, and well-conserved here. |
