Description
hb | Waite, Arthur Edward | The Pictorial Key to the Tarot | 2nd | William Rider & Son Limited | 1922 | £225 | After the original edition of 1911. Complete in xii + 340 pages | Original full orange cloth in vgc- condition with 2 cm tear in cloth at top of front hinge, connected to shorter 5mm tear via 5mm cross-tear, otherwise near-fine, with only light rubbing to foot of spine and outer corners of boards. Gilt titling to front board still nearly all bright and strong, with slight partial fading to the capital ‘K’; to spine, it is only very slightly faded and still fairly strong. Front paste-down with narrow rectangle of toning as though from removal of a former label. Former owner’s green-inked name to ffep, and partly faded hand-pencilled imperial price to upper outer corner of same. Printed pages free from markings and remain clean and bright. Inner paper hinges between adjoining gatherings occasionally very slightly strained, but cords holding. Externally near-very-good; internally near-fine; overall, a vgc+ copy of the desirable second edition. The small tear to the top of the front spine hinge, which has been factored into the price, would be worth getting professionally restored by a conservator. |
