The first edition of this title authored by Grimm although the second edition in the series. It replaced the one written by Karl Brandler-Pracht in 1911 | Original quarter-cloth with paper-covered boards in vgc- condition for age, with wear to paper over outer corners of boards, and light wear to foot of spine; moderate rubbing of cloth to spine extremities and light rubbing along spine hinges. Spine title faded. Publisher’s original red dye to top edge of page block somewhat faded. Page-edges and margins mostly lightly age-browned, as usual for this title, with occasional pages exhibiting more browning. Two pieces of brown paper adhered on top of each other to upper margin of front paste-down. Former owner’s purple-pencilled note to table of contents. A few short tears to bottom edge of leaf comprising pp. iii-iv. Minor dog-ears to lower outer corners of pp. 5-10. Black-inked annotation to lower margin of p. 15; occasional plain-pencilled annotations or underlinings. Green-pencilled marginal bracketing and similar marks to pp. 3, 8, 23 and 27; green-pencilled underlining to one word on p. 8 and one astrological shorthand on p. 9. 2 cm tear to bottom edge of leaf comprising pp. 71-2, not reaching text. Very short tears to bottom edges of pp. 83-6. No other faults found. Overall, a good antiquarian original of this fairly rare title. |
