hb Leo, Alan Practical Astrology 1st U.S. The Occult Publishing Company, 120 Tremont Street, Boston [1897] £150 Undated in print, but library records show it was published in 1897, simultaneously with the first British edition, which the design of the covers exactly matches. Original full red cloth with rich gilt titling and Ouroborus-framed astrological diagram to front board still strong and bright. Moderate fraying to extremities of spine and outer corners of boards. A few minor stains to boards, but in very good antiquarian condition. Rear fep partly glued down to rear paste-down – an apparent binder’s error, though as neither has any print content, this is without loss. Former owner’s inked, dated signature to ffep, which is toned. Frontispiece portrait of the young Alan Leo present together with original tissue guard. Printed pages unmarked. Overall, an excellent copy of the rare first US edition of Alan Leo’s very first complete book
