The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.
Alan Leo; ed. Vivian Robson – Alan Leo’s Dictionary of Astrology 1929, Copy 4
£50.00
Description
hb | Leo, Alan; ed. Robson, Vivian | Alan Leo’s Dictionary of Astrology | 1st thus, poss. later issue | “Modern Astrology” Office, Imperial Buildings, Ludgate Circus, E.C.4, London | 1929 | £50 | The first complete edition. The font to the spine on this copy suggests it may be a slightly later issue. Originally, only the first part, covering entries from A-G in the alphabet, was published in 1905. Alan Leo died before the rest was published, and Robson, with Bessie Leo’s permission, edited Leo’s manuscripts for the rest into shape to bring the book to posthumous publication in 1929. This copy is bound up with advertising indicating a probable slightly later binding date around 1934 | Original full green vertically ribbed cloth in vgc, with moderate rubbing to extremities of spine and outer corners of boards; very light rubbing along parts of spine hinges; and minor bump to upper outer corner of front board. Gilt titling to front board mostly still bright and strong; to spine, it is still fairly strong, although gilt ruled lines at top and bottom of spine mostly relatively faded. Hinges intact. Former small bookseller address sticker to front paste-down. Frontispiece leaf just beginning to separate from adjacent title page at lower part of binding, but otherwise firmly attached. Internally unmarked: a near-fine copy |
