The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.

Alan Leo, ed. Vivian Robson – Alan Leo’s Dictionary of Astrology 1929, Copy 2

£95.00

Description

hb Leo, Alan; ed. Robson, Vivian Alan Leo’s Dictionary of Astrology 1st thus, 1st issue “Modern Astrology” Office, Imperial Buildings, Ludgate Circus, E.C.4, London 1929 £95 The first complete edition. The font to the spine on this copy, and added running heading ‘Alan Leo’s Astrological Text-Books’ to front board, strongly suggests it is also the very first issue. Originally, only the first part, covering entries from A-G in the alphabet, was published in 1905. Alan Leo died before the rest was published, and Robson, with Bessie Leo’s permission, edited Leo’s manuscripts for the rest into shape to bring the book to posthumous publication in 1929. Original green vertically ribbed cloth in near-fine condition, with only minimal rubbing to extremities. Gilt titling to both front board and spine still strong and bright. In fair dj, which has lost chips from top and tail of spine and along parts of top edges of both panels, and has been newly repaired with archival tissue to inside and out along the front hinge, with a few other minor archival tissue repairs on the inside to stabilise it. The dust jacket rarely survives at all, and although its condition here is indifferent, it retains the full printed text on the front panel and on both flaps, as well as the majority of that on the spine, and has protected the excellent condition of the book. Internally fine, with no permanent markings or faults found. An excellent copy of this rare book, in fair dj.
