The Astrolearn bookshop is temporarily closed for 14 days Friday December 13th to Thursday December 26th inclusive. This is because of the unreliability of the Christmas post and very high volumes of writing and editing work over this period. Please check back on Friday December 27th, when the shop will reopen and this notice will be removed.
Alan Leo, ed. Vivian Robson – Alan Leo’s Dictionary of Astrology 1929, Copy 1
£45.00
Description
hb | Leo, Alan; ed. Robson, Vivian | Alan Leo’s Dictionary of Astrology | 1st thus, poss. later issue | “Modern Astrology” Office, Imperial Buildings, Ludgate Circus, E.C.4, London | 1929 | £45 | The first complete edition. The font to the spine on this copy suggests it may be a slightly later issue. Originally, only the first part, covering entries from A-G in the alphabet, was published in 1905. Alan Leo died before the rest was published, and Robson, with Bessie Leo’s permission, edited Leo’s manuscripts for the rest into shape to bring the book to posthumous publication in 1929. | Original full green vertically ribbed cloth in vgc+ condition for age, with no tears and almost no visible wear to spine-ends or boards. Gilt titling to front board still strong and bright; gilt to spine present but relatively faded. The one slight condition issue that prevents a ‘near-fine’ rating is a bump to the lower outer corner of the front board, that has left a slight crease to the cloth across that corner. Minor staining in a few small places, e.g. thin trace of a white stain to bottom 1.5 cm of front of spine, and small circular outline residue stain to upper margin of front board where the original price sticker was removed. Ffep with plain-pencilled imperial and decimal prices. Interior fine – no markings or faults found. Overall, an excellent copy of this rare book |
