Prominent mid-late 19th century astrologer Luke Dennis Broughton was one of the leading advocates for astrology in the United States in his day. He ran into opposition from various quarters including astronomer Richard Anthony Proctor (1837-1888), an outspoken sceptic regarding astrology.
Introductory Remarks to a Pamphlet Entitled Why I Am An Astrologer is a short early book by Broughton which details his arguments on the matters raised by Proctor in the New York press, and contains some autobiographical content.
