[1] A series of publications collectively edited by Harry W. Bondegger, who is also presumed to be the translator of the present volume since he is expressly credited as the translator of its sequel, q. v. below
[2] From this German title, it is not apparent which work by Wilde has been translated, since the title does not directly correspond to the English title of any work of his. Given the first publication date in 1908, the more common later editions (1911 and after) of Wilde’s “Primer of Astrology” can be excluded. However, the content does not correspond to the 1901 first edition of Wilde’s “Chaldean Astrology Up To Date”, his only major work published in English before 1908. Pinning down the identity of the source for Bondegger’s translation will require further investigation
[3] Internal advertising suggests around 1920 or shortly afterwards for this printing. However, the first edition of this translation of the first half of Wilde’s work is dated by German library records to 1908.
[4] A series of publications collectively edited by Harry W. Bondegger, who is also the translator of the present volume
[5] Internal advertising suggests around 1920 or shortly afterwards for this printing. However, the first edition of this translation of the second half of Wilde’s work is dated by German library records to 1909
[5a] Stated an authorised translation from the English original. The publisher specifies in his foreword that it is a translation of ‘Key to Your Star Courses and Success’ and other writings by the author, including private letters, but without indicating which work. Paradoxically, the English edition entitled ‘Key to Your Star Courses and Success’ was not published before 1912, but an earlier edition ‘The Key to Your Horoscope’ dates to 1907. It may be that the publisher of the German edition was informed of and anticipated Wilde’s plans to change the title in his second edition of 1912 before it was published
[5b] Front board title is limited to ‘A Primer of Astrology’
[5c] Presumed the original edition of 1907 in the absence of any indications to the contrary
[6] Earlier editions of this book are rare. The present third edition is the earliest recorded at the British Library. There is only one unspecified earlier edition held in libraries recorded worldwide, an undated edition of 67 pages, in the University of London’s Senate House Library special collections. The earliest advertisement for an edition of Wilde’s book of this title that I’ve been able to trace so far is in the March 1908 issue of Old Moore’s Monthly Messenger, q. v. in the journals section.
[7] Library records give 1921
[8] With separate title page to second title towards end of vol.: Trent, A. G. “The Soul and the Stars (Reprinted from the University Magazine for March, 1880). Revised and Extended by the Author” The Occult Book Co., 6 Central Street, Halifax, Yorks., 1893
[9] A series of publications collectively edited at this time by D. Friedrich Kropatscheck, Professor in Breslau
[10] First published in 1982, with a revised edition in 1984. The date of the third printing is not stated here
[10a] A later compilation of articles originally presented serially in ten parts in issues of the AFA Bulletin. Internal references show that the fifth part of ten was published there in August, 1950 and strongly suggest that the ninth was published during 1951. It seems reasonable to postulate that all parts were published in the period from 1950-1
[10b] While some of Williams’s original diagrams are signed and dated 1951, the present publication is said to have been compiled from articles previously serially published in the AFA Bulletin, and the advertisement on the inside of the rear cover is for AFA Yearbooks spanning 1944 to 1954, suggesting that this printing cannot predate 1954 and is probably from around then. It is presumed the original issue in this form, and certainly predates 1963, by which time the AFA had changed address to 6 Library Court
[11] Volume 64 in a series called Sixteenth Century Essays & Studies, edited by Raymond A. Mentzer of the University of Iowa. Consists of seven essays categorised as ‘Paracelsiana’ and five under the heading of ‘Natural Magic and Natural Wonders’, including a short essay by Sheila Rabin about Pico’s views on astrology
[12] Described on the rear dj cover as ‘the pen name of a retired development engineer’ . His real name is not known
[13] After the original printing of 1972, with further printings recorded in October 1972 and June 1973
[14] Copyrighted 1991, but this appears to be a print-on-demand edition from the 2000s
[15] The original publication date is given as 1975
[16] The dust jacket enigmatically gives the name of the author in two forms, as “Alice M. Williamson (Mrs. C. N. Williamson)”. It seems from library records that Alice Muriel was her real name; but perhaps she had previously written under the pen-name of Mrs. C. N.?
[17] Stated, unusually, ‘Originally Published 1929’; yet this appears to be the first book-form issue. It is unclear whether the 1929 date refers back to an earlier serialisation of the contents in a magazine, or represents the actual date of first printing of the book, but it is the date carried by the BL in its records, and it may be that the use of the word ‘Originally’ in this case was needlessly confusing, and that it was in fact the first printing in any form.
[17a] A series of publications collectively edited by Lowell John Bean and Thomas C. Blackburn
[17b] Transcripts of 28 papers from a conference held at Santa Fe, N.M., in 1979. The papers are divided into five sections, headed Symposium, North America, Mesoamerica, South America, and The Old World
[17c] The contents of the volume have been contributed entirely by a team of 20 academic scholars including the editor
[17d] After original 1993 edition published by RD Press in Australia and Duncan Baird Publishers Ltd. in London
[17e] The original copyright date given is 1996, but no details of the original printing are given; the present edition is the first printing in the St. Martin’s Paperbacks imprint
[18] Guessed late 1990s but could be earlier or slightly later
[19] The copyright date is 1991
[20] After the original Hodder & Stoughton edition of 1980
