Further to my previously published note ‘Comment on “The Astrologers’ book Lists Part I”‘, I have lately belatedly reviewed the subsequently published parts of the extended article “The Astrologers’ Book Lists”, which proved in the event to be spread over four successive bimonthly issues of ‘The Astrological Journal’ in the period 2010-11, and not five as originally projected.
Once the nominations of astrologers featured in the remaining three parts of the article were added in, the final tally became, according to my addition, as follows:

As can be seen from the occasional question marks and occurrences of the Latin tag ‘sic’ above, some problems were encountered in compiling this tally as a result of astrologers having mis-reported the titles or in some cases even the authors of books they nominated, and these faultily represented titles having been carried over uncorrected into the multi-part article in the Astrological Journal.
Further, there were numerous examples of astrologers nominating non-specific works in general by authors who produced four or more works. These votes could not be spread in any reasonable way among so many works, so they were discounted from my tally altogether and written off as ‘spoiled ballots’ or wasted votes.
These provisos notwithstanding, from this tallied data, I proceeded to compile a comprehensive ranking order, consisting ultimately of the 110 books that gained at least two independent whole votes (or equivalent in split votes) among the astrologers polled. (All others could only muster a single vote, or at most one and a half votes, and have therefore been excluded as ‘also-rans’.)

Comment: With the completion of the publication of the results of the Astrological Association’s survey three bimonthly issues after the first part was published, the trends are much more clearly defined.
It became apparent from perusing Parts II, III and IV that the distribution of surveyed astrologers between parts was not entirely random. In particular, it was noticed that there was a great preponderance of astrological historians and traditional astrologers polled for Part III, which led to traditional astrology books and works of direct or indirect relevance to the history and philosophy of astrology, including a great number of idiosynscratic and obscure choices, newly appearing in the listings or being boosted and reinforced in the overall tally.
By the time all results had been tallied up, several works of traditional astrology had brought in multiple votes, seemingly indicating its increasing popularity among today’s English-speaking astrologers since the A. A.’s comparable but more briefly presented survey of the mid-1990s.+
William Lilly’s 1647 work ‘Christian Astrology’ was alone among pre-20th century works in landing in the overall Top 10.
Nonetheless, the final picture remains one in which works of the 1970s and 1980s and works on psychological astrology predominate in the popularity stakes.
Some works of the 1990s and 2000s have also picked up a significant following – in particular, two titles by highly-regarded contemporary British astrologer Sue Tompkins, including the overall poll-winner, stand out in this regard, with Geoffrey Cornelius, Bernadette Brady and Richard Tarnas being other writers to have attracted a significant following in recent times, and still others represented to a more minor degree.
The later works of Nicholas Campion, whose first published books on astrology appeared in the early 1980s, have proven even more popular than his early ones among astrologers polled.
Further, works on karmic and evolutionary astrology, relatively novel themes squarely centred in the late 20th century and beyond within the astrological literary corpus, have also gained a significant foothold.
Among earlier 20th century works, those by Dane Rudhyar and Charles Carter remain the stand-out popular choices. Other astrologers of equal renown and market penetration in their days such as Marc Edmund Jones, Llewellyn George, and Alan Leo enjoyed much slimmer support.
The favoured work of Reinhold Ebertin, ‘The Combination of Stellar Influences’, while first published in the original German in the 1940s and 1950s, did not gain a popular foothold in English translation until much later, and therefore essentially forms a part of the 1970s corpus in terms of the English-language astrological literature.
Even when one disregards the obvious lack of popularity of Sun sign specialists such as Linda Goodman among serious astrologers, it is perhaps notable that, among successful late-20th century English-speaking astrological writers, the prominent American astrologers Noel Tyl and Steven Forrest, and the team of Marion March and Joan McEvers, have not achieved nearly such a strong level of popularity among the reportedly 88* astrologers polled as their works have among the astrological reading and learning public at large.
This is perhaps a reflection both of these astrologers’ specialisation in teaching astrology to the general public and of their being American, when the Astrological Journal is published by a British astrological organisation and polled relatively few American astrologers compared with what might have been expected from an equivalent survey undertaken by one of the American astrological organisations.
