Lippincott Company, Philadelphia / London 1931 £85 After the original edition of 1923 and second of 1928 Original red full cloth in good+ condition, with light rubbing to foot of spine but no other obvious wear; condition is only good+ because of scattered light discoloration and staining to boards and spine. Minor damp-stain to part of bottom closed edge of page block, which only minimally intrudes into some early lower inner margins of pages to about p. 100, and never comes close to text. Internally, the book remains strongly bound. Mild staining to blank endpapers. Former owner’s neat printed private library label to front paste-down, which has a charming vintage green Atlantis Bookshop of London address sticker to its lower margin; ffep with same private owner’s blue-inked signature and plain-pencilled bookseller inventory number. Corrected dog-ear to upper outer corner of leaf comprising pp. 33-34, with trace of dark-staining towards lower margin of p. 34. Short accidental slip-of-a-pencil mark (probably erasable) to p. 92. No permanent previous owner markings found to any printed page, and no other faults found. A near-very-good copy of this rare early edition.
