Bindings in excellent condition for their age, with gilt illustrations to boards and gilt titling to both boards and spine exceptionally well-conserved, remaining strong and bright. Both vols. with light rubbing to feet of spine hinges and to lower outer corners of boards. Vol. I with small near-vertical crease to upper margin of front board, two small patches of minor discoloration to spine, and minor staining to rear board. Vol. II with light creasing towards top of spine. Both vols. with moderate foxing to endpapers and light foxing to preliminaries, Vol. II also with light foxing to last few pages of index. No library markings to either volume. Vol. I with small plain-pencilled bookseller mark to ffep. No permanent markings or other faults found internally. Vol. II mostly unmarked, but with neatly ruled fine black-inked underlining to a few words or lines of Greek source text on pp. 294, 297, 298, 303 (parts of the ‘Annotations’ appendix); similar possible elsewhere although none spotted; it is in any case very neat and inoffensive. Trace of creasing to upper inner margins of pages in Vol. II, but no other faults found. An excellent set with outstandingly well-conserved bindings and only minimal previous user markings to a small number of pages towards the end of Vol. II.
