Cornish & Co., London 1839 £575 The first and only edition before modern print-on-demand reprints Original dark green ribbed cloth with blind-stamped decorative bordering to both boards, and classic gilt illustration of astrologer framing the artistic gilt titling to the front board. Gilt star illustration, titling and original imperial price to spine are slightly faded but complete and unaltered. The binding seldom survives in such condition, complete with all original gilt details. There is wear to the cloth at the extremities of spine and along a 1 cm part of rear hinge, with slight rubbing to parts of the front hinge too, but this is all of minor significance in the context of the original binding details being conserved so well. Outer corners of boards bumped. Original yellow endpapers intact. Minor plain-pencilled bookseller notes to rear paste-down. Old hand-inked small inventory number label to front paste-down. Frontispiece illustration present in very good condition. Contents complete and solidly bound, with no permanent previous owner markings found; just very occasional, extremely minor accidental ink stains to a small number of pages, not affecting legibility of text. Also spotted, a faint plain-pencilled annotation to chart on p. 201. An excellent, unaltered survival, the peripheral wear to the spine cloth notwithstanding.
