hb Cornell, Howard Leslie Encyclopaedia of Medical Astrology 1st The Cornell Publishing Company, 3108 Humboldt Street, Los Angeles, California 1933 £500   AUTHOR-SIGNED COPY. Original full brown cloth in vgc, with moderate rubbing to extremities of spine hinges and light wear to cloth over outer corners; originally gilt titling to front board partly faded, as usual; to spine, gilt perished but titling still apparent. This copy with a charming dedication by the author in brown ink to the front paste-down: ‘To my friend Miss Belle M. Carroll – With the Best Wishes of the Author – H. L. Cornell, M.D., Los Angeles, Calif., Dec 11th, 1936’. Caroll would later become corresponding secretary of the Western New York Federation of the Theosophical Society in America. Cornell would live only just over two more years, to February 1939. Inner paper hinge following copyright page cracked, but webbing holding. No permanent internal markings found. Minor holing to lower margin of rear free endpaper. 1 cm split towards foot of rear inner paper-hinge. No other faults found. The first edition is rare in any condition, and even rarer signed as here. A collector’s item or museum-worthy acquisition befitting of an institutional library’s rare books room.
