The work was originally published as a series of leaves in a black ring binder in 1929, which is the nominal first edition, hence its first appearance as a book being the nominal 2nd. Not to be confused with the more common 3rd edition, which retained the 1931 copyright date but was printed in the 1940s Original full red cloth in vgc, with moderate wear to cloth at top of spine; moderate rubbing to feet of spine hinges; and wear to cloth over outer corners of boards. Gilt has faded from titling to spine, but it is still clear to read. Upper half of front inner paper hinge cracked, but rest intact and webbing holding. rear inner paper hinge cracked, but webbing holding. Plain-pencilled former owner’s name to ffep. One word to table of contents effaced with black ink by former owner. Plain-pencilled underlinings to names of some fixed stars on pp. 175-6 (erasable). Address (probably in New York) inked to rear free endpaper. No other markings or faults found. For its age, a very good copy of the first book-form edition and second overall edition of this sought-after work by one of America’s most celebrated modern esoteric philosophers.
