Original card covers in fair- condition, with separation down slightly more than half of front spine hinge from the bottom to the middle, light chipping to top and tail of spine, especially around hinges, small area of paper loss to lower inner corner of rear cover, small patch of surface tearing to inner margin of front cover, two ink pen marks to rear cover, liquid stain to upper margin of both sides of rear cover, and general creasing, staining and edge-wear to covers. Internally, upper half of rear inner paper hinge cracked. Short tears to outer edges of first two internal leaves, and two of the final three internal leaves, far from text. Blue-inked signature of unclear significance (might be the author’s hurried signature, but I have nothing to compare it with) to title page. Former owner’s blue-inked and / or blue-pencilled marginal bracketing and / or underlining and occasional marginal annotations to pp. 26-7, 32-3, 36-8, 41-2, 44, 60-3, 65-7, 77, 80, 85, 88, 145, 154, and 166-7; purple equivalents to pp. 50-3; inked correction of glyph to p. [171]). An acceptable reading copy of the scarce first edition
