Description
hb | Leo, Alan | The Progressed Horoscope: A Sequel to The Art of Synthesis Wherein the Progression of the Horoscope Is Exhaustively Considered, Both in Principle and in Practice | 2nd, revised | Modern Astrology Office, Imperial Buildings, Ludgate Circus, London, E.C. | 1923 | £7.50 | Paginates the same as the 2nd edition of 1913. This is probably the first posthumous edition of the book, which would explain the lack of changes since the 1913 edition | Original full green vertically ribbed cloth in fair condition, with 1 cm loss of cloth from top of spine, at least 8 cm separation to cloth at top of front spine hinge, patch of internal tearing towards middle of spine (1.5 cm * 8mm approx), and heavy wear to cloth over outer corners of both boards and upper inner corners of front board. Gilt titling to front board still bright and strong; to spine, it is only a little faded. Some staining to both boards. Patch of heavy mottling or creasing towards middle of rear board. Ffep with early owner’s old inked signature in a fine hand, and later plain-pencilled bookseller marks. Rear inner paper hinge mostly cracked, with just a little of the underlying webbing still holding; it would benefit from professional tape reinforcement at gutter or other repair. Text pages very good, clean, and free from permanent owners’ markings, with some very faint plain-pencilled mark-up. 1.5 cm tear to outer edge of one of the last pages of advertisements, not reaching text. A former owner has taped down two small pieces of ruled paper on which they have written a definition of ‘antiscion’ and some diagrams and correspondences to illustrate this. Overall, an acceptable reading and study copy of this vintage early edition, albeit one that would benefit from restoration and conservation work on the binding. |
