Description
hb | Leo, Alan | Jupiter: the Preserver | 1st | “Modern Astrology” Office / L. N. Fowler | 1917 | £15 | Rebound long ago in green cloth with gilt titling to spine. Middle section of rear hinge of spine covering torn, and the 7mm sections at top and tail of the same are slightly damaged and have lengths of green tape wrapped around them. The tape over the lowest 7mm is itself detaching. Just above this is adhesive residue from a label that formerly read ‘LEO’, the traces of which can still be seen. It partly covers the ‘J’ of the gilt ‘JUPITER’ on the spine. Heavy wear to outer corners of boards. Front paste-down with former Theosophical Society Lending Library bookplate, stamped ‘WITHDRAWN FROM LIBRARY’. Above this has been written ‘DEPOSIT £5’ in red ink. An original pocket for a lending slip is adhered partly over the bookplate. Ffep with plain-pencilled bookseller notes and residue of removed label. Contents page with old inked library inventory number to upper margin. No other faults or markings found. An acceptable copy of the rare first edition |
