Description

hb Jones, Marc Edmund How to Learn Astrology Early reprint David McKay, Washington Square, Philadelphia 1946 £100 This is probably the 2nd impression of the first edition. Worldcat has a ghost record for a 1945 printing, with no libraries holding it, which appears to be a mistake Original black cloth in vgc+ condition, with light rubbing to extremities of spine hinges, and minimal traces to outer corners of boards and centre of foot of spine. One line of tape residue to each of upper and lower margins of both boards owing to misguided decision of an early owner to tape the book down to its dust jacket. The residue could certainly be safely removed with a suitable solvent. Otherwise a near-fine copy. In good original pictorial dj, which is structurally almost complete, lacking just one chip along the lower margin of the front cover, and with the front flap-fold a little fragile and centrally slightly torn, else just with mostly minor edge-rubbing and a few slight edge-tears. The dj would rate higher for condition based on its structural condition, but is cosmetically spoiled in a few peripheral places by traces of the browned tape used by the former owner, chiefly at extremities of spine and along upper margin of rear panel. The dj rarely survives at all, so even in this imperfect condition, it is an asset, with the main picture and titles to the front panel being almost entirely unblemished. Internally, front and rear free end-papers have traces of tape-residue staining to top and bottom margins. Ffep also with a former owner’s signature in blue ink and an old plain-pencilled bookseller price. The printed pages are near-fine, with no previous-owner markings or other faults found. Overall, this is an excellent copy of this early impression, in a slightly spoiled but still characterful original dust jacket.
